Accounts Receivable Officer Vacancy

KEY FUNCTIONS
  1. Prepare all accounting entries to the trial balance stage 
  2. Maintain Accounts Receivables Ledger, ensuring the accurate and timely posting of accounting transactions 
  3. Ensure the accurate and timely preparation and remittance of invoices to clients and/or participants 
  4. Follow up with clients and participants to ensure the timely receipt of payments on outstanding balances 
  5. Prepare weekly and monthly receivables aging report 
  6. Prepare and post journal vouchers in respect of daily accounting transactions and adjustments to accounts 
  7. Prepare reports and schedules in compliance with reporting requirements 
  8. Make recommendations for improving internal controls and safeguards 
  9. Maintain appropriate internal control and safeguards 
  10. Recommend methods and systems for improving the accounting, budget, risk management, strategic and operational planning processes and performance accountability and reporting 
  11. Perform other related functions as directed by the Director, Finance / Executive Director. 

NATURE AND PURPOSE OF INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CONTACTS
Internal:
The jobholder will be expected to maintain close and effective personal working relationships at all levels of the organisation.

External:
The General Public, Ministries, Departments and other Government bodies, tertiary institutions, suppliers of products and services.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Association of Accounting Technician, Certified Accounting Technician or Equivalent designation/ qualification. 
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in accounting 
  • Experience using accounting software 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
  • The Financial, Administration and Audit Act (FAA) 
  • Basic accounting practices and practices 

Ability to:
  • Maintain manual and computerized accounting records 
  • Perform and verify the accuracy of basic arithmetic computations 
  • Conduct effective interviews; evaluate financial statements; compose letters and convey facts and information in a courteous, tactful, and firm manner; gather and summarize data; prepare clear and comprehensive reports; respond tactfully and in a timely fashion to inquiries from the public 
  • Analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of goals 
  • Perform work with accuracy, speed, and minimal supervision 
  • Compose correspondence and reports independently or from brief instructions 
  • Organize and prioritize a variety of projects and multiple tasks in an effective and timely manner; organize own work, set priorities, and meet critical time deadlines 
  • Exercise good judgment, flexibility, creativity, and sensitivity in response to changing situations and needs 
  • Use tact, initiative, prudence, and independent judgment within general policy, procedural, and legal guidelines 
  • Maintain strict confidentiality 

Skills:
  • Sound interpersonal skills, including providing coaching and counselling 
  • Sound decision-making and problem solving skills 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. 
  • Strong organisational, research and analytical skills 
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications
