KEY FUNCTIONS
- Check, verify and process invoices
- Sort, code and enter accounts payable data
- Analyze discrepancies and unpaid invoices
- Maintain vendor files
- Assist in month end reporting procedures
- Process accounts payables as needed
- Perform filing and general administrative tasks
- Prepare and submit customer invoices
- Code, post and receipt payments
- Prepare and coordinate deposit activities
- Perform all necessary account, bank and other reconciliations
- Monitor customer accounts for non-payment and delayed payment
- Prepares monthly/weekly salaries, allowances, travel claims and other payments for staff members, consultants and other claimants and maintaining relevant records.
- Prepares monthly bank reconciliation statements.
- Maintains the daily cash balance, including control of disbursement and balancing of books.
- Issuing invoice orders and receipts for various services of the Council including registration and accreditation.
- Disbursing petty cash expenses through imprest.
- Prepares annual returns of Statutory Deductions.
- Performs other related functions as directed by the Finance Manager/ Executive Director.
NATURE AND PURPOSE OF INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CONTACTS
Internal:
The jobholder will be expected to maintain close and effective personal working relationships at all levels of the organisation.
External:
The General Public, Ministries, Departments and other Government bodies, tertiary institutions, suppliers of products and services.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- A.Sc. in Accounts or Management Studies with a specialization in Accounts from a recognized institution or completed the first nine levels of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) professional programme
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in accounting
- Experience using accounting software
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
- The Financial, Administration and Audit Act (FAA)
- The Government of Jamaica accounting practices
Ability to:
- Maintain manual and computerized accounting records
- Perform and verify the accuracy of basic arithmetic computations
- Conduct effective interviews; evaluate financial statements; compose letters and convey facts and information in a courteous, tactful, and firm manner; gather and summarize data; prepare clear and comprehensive reports; respond tactfully and in a timely fashion to inquiries from the public
- Analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of goals
- Perform work with accuracy, speed, and minimal supervision
- Compose correspondence and reports independently or from brief instructions
- Organize and prioritize a variety of projects and multiple tasks in an effective and timely manner; organize own work, set priorities, and meet critical time deadlines
- Exercise good judgment, flexibility, creativity, and sensitivity in response to changing situations and needs
- Use tact, initiative, prudence, and independent judgment within general policy, procedural, and legal guidelines
